Kaamdev

The Devtas told Kaamdev the plight they were in and asked him for his help. Kaamdev laughed and told them that it was not in his best interest to take on Shiva. But the Vedas say that it is the biggest Dharma to die in the line of duty or when you are helping others. So Kaamdev would help them.

With bows and arrows made of flowers, Kaamdev proceeded along with his helpers, the spring and summer winds. He knew that he will not survive going against Shiva. Then with his power he controlled the whole universe and brought it under his spell. When he showed his anger all the teachings of the Vedas disappeared from the Vedas. Arts and sciences, Bramhcharya (celibacy) rules and regulations, decency, Yoga, detachment; all the virtues just ran away and nobody followed them. The whole world was in chaos and all the people were crying out for help.

It seemed the only thing that was in every body's mind was sex. All creatures great and small, Devatas, Rishis, Munis, humans, beasts, birds, animals, flora and fauna were all enamoured by sex. The rivers were running towards the ocean, and the men and woman was all involved in each other. No one was spared by Kaamdev and only a few were protected by Ram from this plight.

This drama lasted for two seconds till the time Kaamdev reached besides Shiva. As soon as he got there, he got scared and the spell was broken. The world started functioning normally . All the species became happy just like a drunk comes back into his senses after the liquor wears off. After seeing the one who cannot be conquered, is seamless, has six qualities of God( extreme luxury, detachment, Shri, dharma, fame and knowledge) and is Rudra (destroyer), Kaamdev was panic stricken. He was ashamed of running away, yet did not know what to do. Finally he came up with a plan. With the help of Vasant (the wind in the spring) cool breeze started blowing and spring was in the air. Beautiful flowers started blooming everywhere and the hills and dale came alive as if the dead were rejuvenated. Birds started singing and the heavens burst with joy.
Kaamdev did a million different things but Shiva did not budge. Then frustrated, he climbed onto a branch of a mango tree. Then from there, looking at his target, Kaamdev pulled at his bow and arrow made of flowers and aimed five times at Shiva's heart. Then Shiva woke up with a start and looked around. When he saw Kaamdev hiding behind the branches of the mango tree he opened his third eye. Kaamdev was burned to ashes. Pandemonium struck again in the world. Devtas got scared and the demons were happy. The yogis could not concentrate and all the others were afraid of what was going to happen to them.

Rati, the wife of Kaamdev rushed to Shiva when she heard about her husband. She begged and pled for mercy. Shiva who is so easily pleased and so forgiving said to the helpless lady:

Ab Tein Rati Tav Nath Kar Hohin Naamu Anangu

Binu Bapu Bhyapihin Sabahi Puni Sunu Nij Milan Prasangu

From now on your husband will be called Anang and even though he will have no body he will be a part of every body's life. Then he asked her to go home and wait for the time he will be born in Yaduvansh (house of Yadu). That is when to relieve the heavy burdens of this earth K
rishna will take Avatar. Kaamdev will be born as his son Pradhumn. Shivji assured her of his word.

With our eyes on Ram Rajya we plod along. JAI HO!
