Shiva Agrees To Marry Parvati

Shiva became very detached after Sati gave up her life in the fire. Only solace he could find was in chanting the name of Ram and singing his praises. One who is eternally happy, and has no desires, started roaming this earth. Wherever he could, he taught the rishis and munis the intricacies of Bhakti and told stories about Ram. However he still missed his Sati.

Ram was watching Shiva's intense devotion and everlasting love for him. The regulations that he followed in the path of Bhakti were unparrelled. Being so kind and forgiving and always making his devotee happy, Ram appeared before Shiva. He praised his dedication, explained to him the birth of Parvati, and the pure love she had for him.. He had a favour to ask of him, and that was for him to marry Parvati.

Shiva was alarmed and replied that even though it was not the right thing to do, he would follow his dharma and do what his master tells him to do, so his wish was his command.

Ram was very pleased with Shiva's knowledge, dharma and bhakti so, he told Shiva to remember this agreement and keep it in his heart. Then just as he had appeared from this glowing light he suddenly was swept into it. Soon the Saptrishis came and Shiva spoke to them very sweetly. He asked them to go to where Parvati was and check out her love and devotion towards him. Also he asked them to go to her father Himvant and ask him to plead to parvati and take her home.

When the Rishis saw Parvati in the woods she was penance personified. They asked her why she was enduring such hardships, whom was she praying to and what is it that she wanted.
Parwati hesitated then replied that they might think she was stupid and laugh it off.She knew that she was crazy and was trying to build a wall on water. Her mind was made up, she wanted to marry Shiva, and she knew she was so ignorant that she was trying to fly without wings.

She was right the Rishis laughed and said that she was born out of the mountains, that was why she was so dumb and stubborn. Everybody knew that no body's home was built on Narad's word. He had advised Daksha's sons , so much so that they never came home again. Those couples who took Narad's advise lost everything. He looked very decent but his heart was full of malice. So they advised her to look for somebody like Vishnu who was handsome and full of good qualities rather than Shiva who had nothing, wore serpents around his neck plus he was ugly.

Sati was offended at this and tried to shoo them off. She told them to try and matchmake somewhere else, and leave her alone because she had made up her mind. Shiva would be the one she would marry otherwise she would stay single for ever.

Seeing this kind of devotion and love for Shivji the rishis cried out "Jai ho Bhawani. You and Shiva are the mother and father of this world, we bow to you". Then they asked Himvant to go and bring Parwati home. After, the Saptrishis went to Shiva to tell him this whole story.

Love conquers all in Ram Rajya. Jai Ho!
