Pride Before The Fall

Tav Narad Gavney Siv Paahin

Then Naradji went to Shivji. He was labouring under the delusion that he had somehow conquered Kaamdev. With pride, Narad narrated the whole incident to Shiva who with love and respect in his heart tried to advice him. Shiva said to Narad that no matter what, do not ever tell Shri Hari about what he had confided in him even if there was talk about Kaamdev.

Bharadwaj Kawtuk Sunahun Hari Ichah Balwan

Even though Shivji gave Narad the right advice for his good, Narad did not like it and paid no heed to it. Now Bharadwaj, said Yagyavalk Muni, see the drama that unfolded - only that happens what God wants. Nobody can go against Ramchandra's wishes. Not liking what Shiva told him, Narad proceeded to Bramhalok.

One time Narad, who was a music maestro, went with his Veena (string instrument) in his hands and praising the name of Hari went to Sheersagar where the crown and the crux of the Vedas, Bhagwan Narain (Vishnu) lived with his wife Lakshmi. Vishnu Bhagwan greeted the Rishi very fondly, sat alongside him on the mat, and inquired why he had come to visit him after so long. Now, even though Shiva had warned Narad not to breathe a word about the Kaamdev incident to anybody, he blurted out the whole story to Bhagwan Narain. The ways of God are very strange. There is nobody that has not been affected by them.

Bhagwan with a sour face, but with a sweet voice reminded Narad that it was strange that when people just took his name (Narad's) any doubt, pride and greed that they had vanished, then how come, he himself was suddenly affected by it. He said to Narad that he was the paragon of celibacy and a store of knowledge and abstinence, it was not possible that Kaamdev could rile him like that. Narad answered very proudly that it was because of His Grace (Bhagwan's) that he conquered Kaamdev.

When Bhagwan detected his vanity and saw that there was this seed of pride that would grow bigger into a tree, He knew that He had to act right away. It was His pledge to come to the aid of his disciples. So Bhagwan Narain decided that he had to help Narad for his own good but, He would have some fun doing it.

Soon Narad departed from Sheersagar, only he had a bigger ego than when he went there . Then Lakshmi's husband set up this grand illusion and you all must hear the hard truth of all that happened next!!

We will learn in Ram Rajya that pride is no good and it usually comes before a fall. JAI HO!
