Narad's Shraap/Curse

Narad Shraap Deen Aik Baara

Kalap Aik Tehi Lagi Avtaara

Once Narad Muni cursed Vishnu Bhagwan so Bhagwan had to take an Avatar in one kalp/era for that. This peaked Parvati's interest, and she asked Shiva to elaborate, as she did not understand what had Vishnu Bhagwan done for the wily Narad to curse him. At this Shiva answered that no body was smart or stupid, if Ram wanted something to happen then in a second that was going to happen. Anyhow, Yagyavalk amd Tulsidas ask all of us to listen to this story intently as this will stop the cycle of rebirth.

There was a very holy cave by the banks of the river Ganga in the Himalyan mountains. When Narad saw this enchanting Aashram he fell in love with it. Looking at the hills and dales, the woods, Narad's mind started settling down and he started concentrating on the feet of Lakshmikant/Vishnu. This was strange because Daksha had cursed him once so that he could not stay in one place for very long. Even then, at this place his heart started beating slower and slower and soon he went into Samadhi.

Lord Indra got worried when he heard of Narad's samadhi. He called Kaamdev and his helpers and asked them to go to Narad for his (Indra's) good. Indra was afraid that Narad wanted to usurp his throne and be the ruler of Amravati. Greedy people of this world, fear everybody like a crow does. Just like if a stupid dog runs off with a dry bone thinking that a lion will come chasing after him, similarly Indra foolishly thought that Narad wanted to usurp his throne.

When Kaamdev reached the Ashram he created the illusion of Vasant/spring. Suddenly colourful flowers started blooming in various kind of trees. Birds were tweeting, bees and butterflies were gathering pollen and a mildly scented breeze was blowing. Kaamdev had many illusions up his sleeve. Beautiful girls were singing operatic music while the helpers were doing different other tricks. Kaamdev was in his element, but none of his tricks were working. This made him scared, even of himself and he remembered what had happened to him the last time. How can he be so stupid, and work against Narad who had the backing of Vishnu? Realizing that he had failed yet again, he along with his followers clung to Narad's feet and asked for his forgiveness. Strangely, Narad showed no anger or resentment and assured Kaamdev that it was fine for him to leave. So Kaamdev and his helpers graciously took Narad Muni's leave .

Kaamdev came back to Indra's court, and related all that he had done and, how Narad had been so decent and forgiving. Indra and the courtiers were quite surprised at this turn of events, still, they praised Narad Muni and bowed to Shri Hari.

We need to work for Ram Rajya each and every day. We learn today that fear and greed will not get us anywhere, so we are better off without them. JAI HO!
