Sati understanding the influence of Ramchandra in every atom of her being, still lied to Shiva. She told him, how she had not tested Ram, knowing full well that whatever he had told her was the truth. So she said she greeted Ram the same way, that he had and proceeded back.
Shivji did not quite believe her, so he concentrated on the situation and got the whole picture.
He already knew that this is how Ram had created this illusion, and that had made Sati lie. Shivji thought, God is great and He is enacting this scene in the whole scheme of things and he decided not to let his mind dwell on it any further.
However this situation has posed a big problem for him. He understands that Sati is pure but even the fact that she disguised herself as Sita is a cause of deep concern and is an impediment on his path of Bhakti (devotion). He realises that he cannot love her in the way a man loves his wife for he will lose everything. He cannot tell her anything either, but to love her is a sin. So he put his mind at the feet of his Lord and surrendered. As if by magic it became clear to him that he cannot live with Sati as man and wife and he made a vow of celibacy.
Now with a calm mind and Ram in his thoughts Shivji started walking towards Mount Kailash,
his abode. The heavens it seemed were happy at his decision and cried JAI HO. Who else can make this profound decision, only you, the true devotee of Shri Ram, they said!!
Sati got perplexed upon hearing this voice from the heavens and wondered what happened. She inquired several times but Shivji did not respond. Sati suspected that Shiva knew everything and all this is happening because of her stupidity and trying to keep a secret from her husband.
TD interjects here and says, that look at this custom of loving! Even when you add water to milk, the appearance remains the same and one can get the same price as milk, but as soon as you add vinegar, the milk becomes sour and the milk and water separate and the taste (love) vanishes.
Realizing how kind Shiva was and that he had not reprimanded her, Sati felt very sorry for herself. Shiva tried to make her happy by telling her beautiful historical stories. Soon they reached Kailash.
Just as Shivji surrendered to Ram, when he could not decide, similarly we should just surrender to him. Then we will have Ram Rajya. JAI HO!
